Hi all,
Trying to think about a break away just now, we fancy the Picos De Europa in Spain and the South of France approx two weeks all.together, we have a caravan but it was costing us £1100 and more just to take the car never mind the caravan. So we were thinking of just taking the car and a tent.
We're worried incase it's too hot, does anyone have experience of camping in France and N Spain ? Is it too warm ?

IME not at night, in fact at night it's more likely to be cold. But in the day the tent can get very warm, it can get too hot for a lie-in so you might find you have to get up around 8-9am before it gets too hot.Hi all,

Ah thanks Zagfles ... I was worried it would be the opposite,0

South of France might well remain hot at night, but the Picos I would expect to cool off pretty rapidly, more so in September.0

It's worth checking out Brittany Ferry holidays where the crossing is included. At this time of the year they generally have 20% off. I've found them far cheaper than booking accommodation and ferry separately.0 -
Hi all,
........ but it was costing us £1100 and more just to take the car never mind the caravan. ..........
Excuse me, what sort of car do you have and where roughly in UK do you live, because I find that figure unbelievable.
Last September, for roughly the same amount, I took a motorhome with a racecar on a trailer down to southern France, then on in just the motorhome down to the Algarve and back again.
Fuel £600, Autoroute tolls £250, ferry £250.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
If you or any MSEr decide to use Brittany Ferries PM me and I will give you a discount code.
We have taken our caravan over when the price is lower and leave it there until went go on a long summer holiday. The cost of leaving it in store on a French campsite is quite low compared to the loading on the school holiday crossings.0 -
We camped in Cap d'Agde and St Remy one July, trying to save money. It was so hot and uncomfortable we wished we'd just spent the extra and rented a mobile home.0

For hot weather canvas is the best option for a tent, but they aren't cheap or light.0

We live in central Scotland .. but this was for a ferry from somewhere down south going to Santander ( cant remember the port we were leaving sorry) it was for height of season, and we had to purchase accomadation as well, we chose not the cheapest ( seats) but the cheapest cabin, it was a return journey. our car is a vauxhall astra
This was not including autoroute tolls, it was ferry with 2 passengers and car with cheapest cabin for sleeping as it was a 23 hour ferry trip
Just checked it was Portsmouth0 -

Thank you very much for the kind offer
we do eventually hope to take the caravan over, but as my husband hasnt driven in Spain or France before we thought it wise to just drive without towing the first time0
