Just been put into Consultation

Hi Everyone. I have just been put into Consultation.
Here is what happened.
One of the senior managers rang me on Monday of last week, as i had queried my Rota the week before, and explained to me that as we have had a guy in essex leave the company, she needs to see me on Thursday to chat about the new routes that will implemented.
When i arrived, i was greeted by her and also the head of HR.
They showed me the new rota, which i looked at, and then i was told, we do not think you can do that rota in the allocated 40 hour working week as per my contract. Overtime which they have been paying for the last 4 years. We do not want to pay overtime for you to do it, and there for your job is at risk of redundancy.
I was then asked if i would consider relocating. Bearing in mind i live 40 miles away from the essex are and still have plenty of work in my own area.
It was then suggested maybe i could drive the first 40 miles and class it as private mileage, and pay for this myself from my salary.
So in a nut shell, they are making me redundant because i have to much work!!!
Because of the chequered past with this manager, i now feel that this could be unfair redundancy. I am the only person that is being made redundant, and my work will still need to be done once i have gone.
I am not to sure what i should be asking or what is really happening.
What do you think my best options are. i have a meeting with the manager next friday.
Any help would be appreciated
Allen

they(or just the manager) might just want you out.
do you know why the other person left?
Consult that's what it is there for.
I think the first thing to do is to get to the bottom of the business case that gives you this new impossible rota.
How will your old work be covered is there someone else more suitable to do cover the gap left by the person leaving.
Will they need to recruit so this is just a temporary change.
Are there alternative they should be looking at that would avoid the redundancy.
Could you cover with an overnight stay very local to some of the locations you visit.
Depending on how well you know the hierarchy and pecking order you could consider calling them out on trying to manage you out.
Depending on the contract they probably could implement something similar without the offer of redundancy.0 -

I read it as they are looking at making you redundant as the work is not in your current location, you are based at your house, and the work is not around there?
without a lot more info I doubt you'll get a huge amount of useful advise.0 -
I would start by asking for all the rota's and who got them. Simply picking you as the one who got the duff rota so you are redundant is not right. There should have been a criteria on which the rota's were assigned. Try to find that out as well.
