Renting

Hi - I'm new to this site but would appreciate any advice! I'm new to this area and am currently renting a room in a shared house. I'm finding it tricky sharing someone else's house, she is quite house proud. I'm very clean and tidy however. But I get the feeling that she doesn't really want to rent her house out. But had to financial. Is it worth sticking with for a couple of months? Also only gave one room so surrounded by boxes. It would be lovely to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation! Thank you.

I take it you're a lodger then? Life is too short to stay somewhere you don't feel welcome. I would find somewhere else to live, possibly in a shared house situation where everyone is a tenant rather than living with the landlord.

That's really something only you can answer.

What are your other options? You could rent a room in a shared house/ rent a house with some friends. This may solve the problem of sharing someone else's house as it'll be as much yours as your flatmates. On the other hand, you'll still be sharing your living space. If that's the problem, you could rent a place of your own. Obviously this is going to cost more.

I could never go back to living with other people, whether as a lodger or as flatmates. I leave my washing up until I get around to it. No small talk with anyone in the morning. Don't have to check it's OK to have an out of town friend crash on my couch.

Presuming you've moved the the area for a reason - work? Then it's ideal to stay somewhere with very flexible arrangements - presuming, as a lodger, you only have to give minimal notice? Then, once you get to know the area/other people, you can choose where to move on to.

Better being a lodger who can leave than being stuck in a house share with strangers AND tied into a 6 month or longer contract.

I'd use your time wisely trying to find somewhere else, then escape!
