If the parents have lived with the roof for the last 22 years I would suggest the council made the right decision considering it non urgent!

    I'm confused:

"a double socket hanging a little loose from wall "
    " the damaged socket,..."
    "..for the light socket"
"the socket does work but not going to use it, and theres another socket in hall that controls that light"
"Would you rather I walk about in pitch black all night?"

    So
    1) is it a socket or a light switch? I personally understood it to be a socket initially.

    2) if it's a light switch, and there's a 2nd switch on that light circuit that you can use, you would not have to "walk about in pitch black all night".

Well look at the original post, I mention a double socket that crackles when something is plugged in.

For the light socket theres a switch next to the door (which is the one that is cracked) and another outside bathroom which controls bathroom and hall.

Put the swtich down in fuse box and all the lights in flat go off.

The light switch is just something that been bugging me since I moved in and thought theres no point bothering council for it, especially reading some conflicting ideas here about doing it myself.

When the taxpayer is paying for it, 'As long as it takes' doesn't seem so unreasonable.
Repairs to council houses and flats are funded through rental income.

Actually getting mixed messages from council, yesterday they said there was no record of a electrician being booked so arranged one for today, today I am told its been moved to 27th of this month so all the little things like broken gate, plastering of some gaps in wall can be done at same time.

I say whilst I don't mind that unless I phoned up to check each time I would of been in house all day waiting, woman said she could rearrange it for Friday but its awkward to do but as problems I have had will do it for me.

So no idea if they will turn up Friday.

On the councils website it states a timeframe of 1 day (which I don't expect just saying this is their rules) for

Unsafe power or lighting socket or electrical fitting

Though I guess unsafe would mean in this instance if it was smashed and exposed.

dekaspace, do please keep us informed of the daily comings and goings of your communications with the council. I'm sure some of the people reading this are on the edge of their seat!

I think you're getting way too bogged down in the detail and need to just relax and focus on other things. There's nothing anyone here can do to help. You're getting things repaired and I'm sure there are things that need your attention apart from this.
