Umbrella Services Co didn't make NEST contributions

I'd appreciate advice anyone can give on this. I had to change umbrella services companies at short notice in the summer and the changeover was a bit scrappy. I was enrolled with NEST under the previous USC. Pay is weekly, based on hourly rate and actual hours worked.

The new USC took over payroll for the week ending Friday 19th August. After a warning letter from NEST late last year advising me the USC had been reported for failure to make my contributions, I emailed the USC and was told that contributions had restarted from week ended Friday 02 December.

So it looks like I've missed pension contributions for about 14 weeks' earnings (I took one full week and some odd days off).

So I'm now wondering where I stand with this. Whose responsibility would you say it is to get the pension organised? Was the former USC remiss for not handing over properly? Is it possible to retrospectively make up the missing contributions? Should I be seeking some kind of recompense?

Advice/opinions gratefully received!
