In small claim in court, can I claim printing, envelopes and postage costs?

How many more threads do we need on this saga?
One of the reasons I do this is to learn about small claims in court, something that seems almost mandatory in this country.
My question is about claiming cost related to postage, just that. Why do you insist in my other problems? Do you have any problem with me? If you are not interested in this thread, you can read another one, there are thousands waiting for your help...0 -
As Judge Judy would say
'Balloney'make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Well I must be in the minority then as I'm going to be 50 in a couple of weeks and have never had to even contemplate utilising the small claims court.0 -

Was there a court order requiring them to serve a witness statement by a certain date?
If not, failing to do in breach of a court order is unreasonable behaviour, but may not be enough to justify a costs order by itself.
To be honest I think you might be better off forgetting about the postage costs. The list of costs which are available in the small claims track are listed in CPR 27.14, as you correctly identified. It is an exhaustive list. You can't claim for anything that isn't in that list.0 -

£25 for printing, envelopes and postage costs? Nah...
54p (I believe) for a 2nd class stamp... (the court would expect you to mitigate your costs a bit, but even so I've factored it into a conservative total).
About 5p for a sheet of paper... (100x sheets for £5 is not unreasonable in budget places)
about 200 pages per printer ink... (let's go with £10 for the cartridge) or 5p per page...
Chuck on about 10p for an envelope when you buy in bulk ...
74p for the whole lot... (I pray that you have your own printer, as I think that the library would only charge like 5p for both the paper AND the ink!)
BUT let's call it £1 because I like to be conservative.
That would imply that you sent the company/court 25x letters!! Really?!
You usually need to send just 3:
1. To the company to ask for what you want
2. To the company to serve them a letter before action
3. To the court to initiate your claim
What were the other 22 letters about?!
If you are entitled to these costs I cannot see how you could justify anything over £5 here. £25 just seems insanely unreasonable (especially when you could do half the stuff online!!).
I will advise you that two wrongs do not make a right; if you are just chucking the £25 on for the sake of penalising the other party (it appears to be the case) then jog on. If you are adamant that you have spent £25 in reasonable circumstances then fair enough, follow the advice of others and read the links provided.0 -

You are lucky. Almost 37 years living reting flats in my country and no problems. Here the first one stole my money, and the second one (an agency) refuses to give me contact details of my current landlord, which is against law. And all my friends, all of them, have had problems with landlords, but of course they don´t do anything. Not my case.steampowered wrote: »Was there a court order requiring them to serve a witness statement by a certain date?

Yes, there was a death line for sending the witness statement and I didn't receive it. I think this landlord is not taking court seriously. Not only that, in the claim response, he didn't write any defence.
I read carefully CPR 27.14, I see the list you say, but my question was more regarding "the fixed costs attributable to issuing the claim which" (is an envelope or stamp a cost attributable to issuing the claim?). Anyway, as dsdhall suggested, I will ask. Thanks for reply.£25 for printing, envelopes and postage costs? Nah...

Printing witness statement twice (43 pages each one, almost all of them pics): 13.23 pounds.
Send witness statement to court: 7.25 pounds (I said it was an important document and I was charge more than usual).
Send Form N180 to defendant: 1.74 pounds (first class mail unsigned)
Send Form N180 to court: 2.38 pounds (Probably because I selected recorded delivery, not sure)
Sending LBA: 1.74
Sending Form N1: 1.74
Total 28.08 pounds. I don't see anything unreasonable here, and I have all the bills.
Evidently I am not going to buy a printer for this. I have to go to a place to get it printed.
Anyway, thanks.
I will ask in court as dsdhall suggested.0 -

Wow! I admire you for taking a stand but a 43 page witness statement to complain about withheld deposit for a dirty carpet and excessive electricity consumption? :shocked:0
