30 minutes by tube. Circle Line. Tower Hill to Ladbroke Grove then a short walk.

The title says 'distance between' ... any half-decent map will have the scale shown upon it, and you can derive the distance from this, surely?

As far as travelling between them, Tower Hill to Notting Hill Gate, Circle line direct, District line with one change
  • forgive me for making the title misleading.

If you take the train from the airport you may be eligible for some of the deals here.

When you're in central London you can find most attractions near tube stations using this tube map. But better still use the buses (sit on the top deck and enjoy the view)- your kids will love the view!. These are some of the ones that show you the touristy bits (they're just ordinary buses so you use your Oyster card), and maybe use this website to find stuff to do. And this site has a map of the Portobello Road area that shows where the shops are. Portobello Road has tapas bars and fast food outlets, and the cinema’s supposed to be an experience.

Hope you have a great time!

It's probably worth noting that all trains from Charing Cross pass through London Bridge (and vice versa) a few minutes later but the tube map doesn't show it. Plus, If you take the underground, it's easy to lose your bearings when you resurface (many major London streets took their signs down as a wartime anti-spy measure and never returned them). An A-Z or map is a must (also remember to get your bearings by looking for satellite dishes which always point south).

For cheap dining in the evening try 5pm.co.uk ( I know it's a Scottish site but it does cover London) The Stockpot restaurant chain runs cosy restaurants in Chelsea and the West End, and do good cheap basic meals at normal prices, unlike almost everywhere else in the centre (or even outskirts) of London - their addresses are on the internet.

Given your age, if you're near Portobello Road you might enjoy the Museum of Brands. It's a tiny but totally bonkers museum which will be perfect for a visit to nostalgia-land. I can't recommend it enough.

    Enjoy your visit!

you don't need an oyster card any more, a contactless debit/credit card does the same job at the same price. Couldn't be simpler; this from someone who goes into London about once a year at most :j
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • we both have contactless cards so that sounds good. does it work out at the same price as using the oyster card? london transport site says its £19.80 from gatwick to the station nearest to my hotel and that i can use it multiple times in a 24 hour period. would i still get the same overall cost?

would anyone know how much a taxi would be between gatwick and seething lane? just if its going to be almost £40 per couple i was wondering if a taxi would be a better option, thinking of cost versus convenience etc?

    thanks
