British Gas blackmail

I have been a member of Homcare for many years and in 2013 had a new boiler fitted, all has been fine except that after the 1st service the heat exchanger needed to be replaced. In october this issue returned and I have been having a running battle to get this fixed as the boiler is unable to maintain a constant hot water temperature.

They have made 5 visits and also a plumbing visit as they were blaming the shower unit event though the same issue was happening on 2 showers we have. The last visit they did admit that the fault was with the heat exchanger but this was caused by sludge so unless I have a Magnaboost fitted they would not fix at a cost of £295.

When the boiler was fitted they are saying that we had a POWER CLEANSE and this doesn't remove sludge from the system. This is news to me as this was one of the reasons the boiler was replaced in 2013.

I am struggling to find out what this is as non of British Gas's website explains this or a clear explanation on the internet.

Can anyone help with this as I can only see Power Flush explanations when I search this.

Reading your post again, I think that you may be mixing your terms. The ones that I have seen used are power flush or chemical cleanse? Which one did you have carried out?

The installer should have looked carefully at your system. If your radiators are getting hot and cold top and bottom, then a chemical cleanse may work. If there is any temperature imbalance in the radiators, then a power flush is advised.

If the power cleanse was carried out properly, then I am surprised that BG didn't fit a filter. Have a look on line for the Boiler Instruction Manual. This document usually spells out what needs to be done during the boiler replacement process. I am looking for a new boiler at the moment and it makes it very clear that sludge will not be accepted as a warranty claim and that the system needs to be cleansed and a filter fitted.
