this looks good
https://www.glass-apps.com/applications/electric-privacy-glass/ , bet it costs more than a roll of privacy film0 -
I suspect that silvered film isn't going to do what you think it will. During the day, you'll be able to see out, but anyone outside will just see a mirror.
At night, when you have the lights on, it will work the other way round. You will just see a mirror, while anyone outside will be able to see in.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
So key is people from outside not seeing in
This means i should use a 100% black tint as used in cars? Or are there vertical blinds i could use?0 -
Think that privacy film would be ideal, if you constantly light the outside front of your house at night, and with bright leds may not even cost that much to do? Never seen it done though.0

I have a very similar area to the sides of my front door, but the window sections are wider on each side (6 ft either side, we really felt on display when we moved in!)
I used this https://www.abodewindowfilms.co.uk/product/privacy-window-film/ and there is no seeing in or out, day or night (the flowers example it gives is misleading, there's no way you'd see that much). I actually left the top and bottom row of window uncovered, no-one is that tall to look through and it means I can still see the weather etc, and the bottom one is so low that only someone laying on the floor could see in, and again means I get a little outside view (and I can see when someone is standing there and get an idea of who is at my door).
They also do this https://www.abodewindowfilms.co.uk/product/whiteout-privacy-window-film-2/ and many other more decorative solutions.
I found it great to order samples from them and see which one suited better. I don't work for them, but was really pleased to find a solution that stopped me feeling like I was on display in my new house!0 -
just go to B&Q and buy a roll or two of frosted film and off you go, a bit of water and a good squeegee and you're done! I like the reflective film but it doesn't work well at night
so frosted film it is!

I have frosted film on my en-suite window. You can see shadows of people that are near the window but you cannot see through the window.0

I used privacy film from https://www.purlfrost.com on my bathroom window (which the previous owner had oddly decided to fit clear glass to, despite being overlooked. I checked, and you couldn't see more than the vaguest shape of a person through it, even at night when the lights were on in the bathroom.0

AS others have said, any one way mirror film will only work during the day. I thought they were really designed to reflect sunlight rather than for privacy. Thumbs up for the frosted window film. I bought something called 'Opal Frost Easy Etch' window film from Amazon for our last house. Works really well. If you're still worried about people seeing vague silhouettes of you if you're standing next to the windows, then perhaps you need to cover with blinds.0
