Business Energy

Good Morning all,
I'm after some advice. I have recently taken control of the energy for my employer (a charity), and I have noticed we have an outstanding debt from 2009. I am told the debt stands because of meter reading errors on behalf of one of the "Big 6".
We have been arguing the case for 7 years, but they are now at the point of instigating legal action.
The advice I need is, do we as a charity have any way of contesting the meter readings from 2009, if so how do we do it. I have been trying to open a formal complaint, but have not managed to do it, as I can never get past the billing team. The money owed is considerable (£16k).

If the debt has been accrued as a result of poor meter readings by the energy company, do I have a complaint?? or do we have to suck it up and pay in full??

Any advice regarding this thread will be gratefully received.
