Finally getting sorted

  • Not looking good only £5 and a few coppers left in my purse as had a spendy few days. Got a few bits for mum for Mother's Day and Argos have a toy sale so bought my niece an Elsa dressing up costume and some lego to go away ready for her birthday.

Pay day tomorrow and just received my wage slip by email. Total pay for this three weeks is £1,516.95.
Have written down all my expenses for the next four weeks including rent, fun money and filling up the emergency fund and I should have £250 left.
I was planning on using this to overpay the credit card but my ex sister in law has asked if I will have my niece over the Easter holidays and work have agreed my days off. I love spending time with her and used to see her everyday but they moved before Christmas and new year was the last time I saw her.
I know it's not very money saving but I'm going to keep the £250 so that I can treat her to a day out if the weathers nice or buy extra food so we can do cooking. If I pay it off the credit card I will only go looking for the credit card to spend on and as I see that as free money I will shop till I drop. I will also need extra petrol as I have to drive to collect her then take her back about 100 miles each way. I would rather stay away from the credit card and leave it hidden.

This month will see my emergency fund hit £1000 which is enough for now. Next thing is to save for car insurance, mot and tax I estimate it will be about £550 in total and would like to be in a position by September where I can pay it all in full.

    Sorry for the long post
  • Not paid for three weeks should be pay for the last four weeks
  • Not posted much as not much to report really. All money from payday has been divided up into its pots so just waiting for Monday when I will have the direct debits taken out and hopefully the credit card bill will come next Wednesday. Will be intereted to see the interest/ minimum payment for this month. Have put £100 aside to pay it and as the month goes on will but any thing left over to it as well.

All ready counting down to payday lol just want this debt gone. 23 days till payday
  • Keep checking online banking for the credit card statement but it won't be out until the end of next week. Itching to get some more paid off. Won't have a lot to overpay as got a spendy few weeks but at least I have real money and it's not adding more debt. If I've worked it out right I should have nearly £500 to pay off it at the end of April so that should help

    Hi ya

Just popped in to say 'YOUR DOING FAB....WELL DONE YOU!'

All this hard work will be worth it when everything is paid off.
    Let's be happy!!
  • Hi all. Not much to post interest has been added to the loan so total is £8729. Minimum payment has gone out though so will hopefully update tomorrow. Will not be making huge overpayments to the loan but will round it down to the next £10. Desperately waiting for the credit card bill to come in so I can pay some more off. Still not used the card it's still hidden away although I'm desperate for a laptop for work. Hoping the credit card bill will come tomorrow and I can get some more paid off
  • Loans finally updated so payed an extra £7 off to make it £8460. Not a huge overpayment but just like to see it at round numbers. Still waiting for the credit card bill to come through just want to see how much interest has cost me and get a bit more paid off. Maybe it will turn up tomorrow

You seem to be doing well in reducing your debt and watching your spends although as you have realised it will be a long slog.

I think getting rid of the credit card is a must. At 17% anything you spend on it is costing you so much more because of interest added. You have an emergency fund. Don't put a laptop on the credit card. Can you borrow one or freecycle? Will this course mean you get a pay rise. I would be tempted to tell your employer you will need to have access to a laptop and can't afford one so can they lend you one.

As your debt reduces you may get access to 0% deals.

  • Credit card bill finally came minimum payment was £69 but I've paid £104 which brings it down to a round number. Not sure I'm going to get it paid off anytime soon but at least it's still going down and not being added to every month

Was naughty yesterday and got the laptop so I can do this course for work. It was unnecessary really but the computer downstairs that belongs to mum only works occasionally and the plan is to really try and attack the essays. It's my day off today but going to work but only until just after 11 so brings my hours to 40 and then travel time and mileage on top.
Have managed to pay another £50 off the credit card now and it's still hidden and not been added to. I'd really like to pay it off this year but realistically it won't happen but as long as I don't add to it I can live with that and I'm pretty sure I'm in a better position now than I was in January. Other than the laptop I'm sticking to my weekly/ monthly budget. I am spending more this month but have allowed for it when I was budgeting so not unexpected.
14 days until payday but 12 days until we get wage slips so can work out the next budget
