Hi

Please excuse this following probably very stupid question but I have read a couple of different articles and have confused myself (easily done!)

I have just bought a wireless router for my new vista pc. Can I use the internet on my old pc in another room by just using a usb wireless adapter or does the old pc have to have a wireless pc card.

I doubt you will be able to connect to the router with a usb cable.

Your options seem to be either using an ethernet cable though this does mean trailing a cable from the PC to the router, which kinda removes the selling point of wireless.
Alternatively, you can make your PC wireless, as you said. This can be done in one of two ways, either with a PCI card which will require you to open up your PC to plug the card in, or with a USB dongle which you just plug into a spare USB port.

thank you for your quick response. I got a usb dongle (adapter) with the router so I will try using that on the old computer and see what I get.
