Car Insurance - accident grrrrrr

We were involved in a car accident on the 1st of September, a young driver pulled across our path on a crossroads, needless to say she is blaming us although quite how she has worked that one out gawd only knows  Anyway my question is about insurance quotes going forward. I am a tad confused as to how to answer the question about have you had any accidents or claims in the last X years. Now it was my policy with OH as a named driver, OH was actually driving at the time of the accident so when getting quotes do I say yes as it is a claim on my old policy and OH say yes as he was the driver at the time?? (confused yet?? lol) or do I say no and he say yes??

Thanks for any advice

  • If you're keeping OH on your policy then you put it under your OH's details as a pending claim.

If you're going it alone then you put it under yours.

I presume you are getting quotes with your OH as a named driver. If you are, then the accident should be listed under his name but not yours.

If you are getting quotes without your OH as a named driver, then it would be listed under your name.

    Edited: Beaten to it

If you haven't done so already it is worth getting some photos of the crossroads. This will help you to prove you had right of way.
Show things like road markings, your view of the junction from 200m, 100m and 50m and same for her approach.

Google Earth (or any of the mapping sites which give aerial photos) is also a good thing to print a picture from showing the accident site - helps put things in context

  • We went back to the site of the accident a couple of days later and lucky for us the glass was still at the point of impact. We took several photos and have copied these to Fortis, our solicitors and to the hire company. I also did a full statement (went on for three pages! lol) When I called Fortis they said they had told the third party that we were holding her fully to blame but that she had countered this claim but they were still waiting for her version of events. Have the distinct feeling this might go on for a while as I was injured but hey ho, least we all still here!

Thank you all for your help though, might be calling on you all again soon
