They have removed the 15 month offer, the one I actually signed up for. As for Ovo Better Energy costs, well bloody confusing, ours was actually the one on offer in early February 2016 - new costs of Better Energy and Simpler Energy far higher than 12 months ago - indeed to the extent that First utility became my first choice to change over too, based on your MSE Energy club recommendation and the fact FU had a £100 cutback deal with TopCashBack making its 15 month fixed deal cheaper than Avro Energy - without CashBack Avro was clear winner on electricity usage of at least 4000KWh's and Gas at 12,000KWh, this caused by my elderly father keeping heating on at full blast, including a 2Kw fan heater British Gas installed.
  • uSwitch tells me I will make a saving of £95.62 per year on their top result, despite the kWh unit price and standing charge for eleccy and gas all being higher than my current supplier.

How does that work. I'd be paying more money, not making any savings!

They are using the Ofgem-madated savings methodology much commented on in this forum.

You have one month left on your fixed tariff. The calculation for the NEXT 12 months is one month on present tariff plus 11 months on the supplier's SVR = £LOTS

You decide to switch to a new Fixed tariff with a cost of £LOTS Minus

This results in a saving even though you end up paying more.

In fairness to Ofgem, the calculation is only flawed for consumers on fixed tariffs with less than 12 months to run. With 75% of consumers still on SVRs, don't expect Ofgem to change its methodology anytime soon.

Is it as the uswitch site states?
This is calculated using the Ofgem-supported personal projection method, which assumes you do not switch at the end of your plan and are therefore rolled on to your supplier's variable rate plan for the remainder of the 12 months ahead.
If your current spend looks incorrect, please double-check the consumption info you have provided.
Your personal projection is the amount you'll pay over the next 12 months if you don't switch today, and are rolled on to your supplier’s variable tariff when your fixed plan ends
You can opt to compare the cost to your current plan instead if that is what you are looking for :)

Look at the "Calculation in detail" if you need more assistance. I'm not sure how to explain it any better...
