Barclaycard increase time frame please read!

Options
Hello guys.

Please be gentle this is my first post I have tried to search for the answer but came as a blank.

I have had a barclaycard for around the 4 year mark no late payment to or been over my limit....before Christmas (7th October) I requested a credit limit increase which was approved straight away.

I have cleared the balance and was hoping to use my card to give added protection (section 75) to a big purchase that I am planning but the problem I have is its slightly over my credit limit.

It states when I log in that I cannot request a credit limit increase until 3 months have elapsed... am I right in saying the feature will become available to me at some point today? Tomorrow? Or the next working day (monday)?

Sorry there are a lot of questions but I kind of need to make this purchase before Monday and will have to revert into using my debit card without the added section 75 protection which I don't really want to do!

Thanks for any replies in advance

Can you split the payment between two cards? Even £1 on the credit card secures section 75 protection on the entire item/service cost, not just that which is paid on the credit card (subject to the usual caveats).
  • Thanks Yorkshire boy unfortunately not there is no option for this I did explore this path but it lead to a dead-end unfortunately.

Unless someone on here has been in exactly the same situation, ie timed it to the minute(!), then you're unlikely to get your answer here. Maybe best to call Barclaycard and ask them?

Having said that, you would appear to have nothing to lose and everything to gain by making a speculative request today/tomorrow for an increase? Whether it's available immediately, or whether it needs to be authorised by someone in underwriting (who probably only work mon-fri?) I don't know...but you'd soon find out.
  • Barclaycard allow increases online every 3 months.

If you increased it on 7th October, that was 3 months ago. You'll likely see the option appear in the next few days.

No guarantee it will be accepted, but Barclaycard are quite good with increases.
  • Thanks Steven
Would you advise to ask to request for something above my needs to avoid this situation in the future? I do believe if they can't accommodate they offer you what there willing to allow?? Is that correct?

Not sure whether this would work. But I'm sure someone will advise?

Make an overpayment on your Barclaycard putting it temporarily into credit, then make the big purchase.

The overpayment would have to be sufficient to avoid the big purchase exceeding your credit limit.

I know CC providers frown on positive balances but would this work if was only a positive balance for a very short time?
  • I did this a couple of years ago when purchasing international flight tickets, by the time they (the card) wrote and told me it was frowned upon, I had already taken the card back into debit.

    Good thinking:cool:
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
  • Barclaycard is now 4 months between increases even though it says 3 months on the website.

I was in a similar position recently and it had been more than 3 months so i called up, advisor said its now 4 months between increase and only recently changed.
