Water damaged i pod

Unfortunately on christmas eve santa was in such a hurry to put the presents under the Christmas tree that he accidently threw the I pod he had picked for my son into a bucket of water.:eek: It spent the night in there and the mistake wasn't noticed until Christmas morning! The I pod was in a case but not completely watertight so there was a small amount of water in the case. We immediately put it in a bowl of rice but I think we made a big mistake (well second mistake If you are counting!) As we allowed my son to try turnin g it on to see if there was any hope. It powered up, we all cheered and then we put it in rice for 24 hours. It hasn't powered up again since. I think the battery probably fried when we turned it on wet. As you can imagine I felt awful for my son - who actually was very good about the situation and didn't make a fuss - but I did order another one a few days later to make up for Santa's clumsiness. I am just wondering now what to do with the water damaged not working I pod - can it be fixed? Is it worth it or is it be only for for the bin?
Opinions appreciated thanks

Stick on e'Bay as 'spares or repair only' and see what you get

Its an i pod 5 with 32 gb. They were bought as reconditioned models from Apple store with 1 year guarantee. Actually selling as is on eBay is probably a good idea....

As above - stick in on eBay. There is still some value in the iPod. There are people who will buy it to strip it down and try to clean the logic board using isopropyl (sometimes successful), others will want the casing if it is in good condition in order to replace a damaged case. Expect around £10-£15 for just the iPod - maybe double that if it looks like new and you have the original Apple packaging
