Better off buying a cheap mobile phone, plenty of old ones with GPS, and a pay as you go sim that doesnt time out. Or where you can text it once every few months to keep it active.

Maybe a bit bulky for a keyring though :)

It may well be that the £20 a pop non-repaceable battery ones work fine for what they are - simple shortish range bluetooth devices with no GPS (GPS trackers are a different technology which is bulkier and costs more).

What I decided to try out was a set of 5 on eBay for £6.70 which has just been refunded with no argument. The ones I bought are still on sale - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5x-Anti-Lost-Smart-Bluetooth-Tracer-GPS-Locator-Tag-Key-Child-finder-Pet-Tracker-/282176029182

Probably not clear enough as I originally posted this but the only function those ones served was to quickly flatten CR2032 batteries and beep annoyingly at random moments.

This ^^ was my solution for my bikes, an old HTC Wildfire with a GPS tracking app installed. Small enough to fit under the saddle.

As for pets, i've tried a few of the bluetooth trackers, utterly pointless because all they do is alarm when out of range of the phone, but it's not loud enough to hear outside of phone range, so if your looking for it, the closer you get the more pointless it becomes.

Also be careful because there are companies making cheap "too good to be true" electronic devices PURELY to get you to download their app (which may contain all sorts of nasties).
