Fan in toilet

Hi all,
Would you install a fan in a toilet that has a windows as well?
Fan is 1/3 window and i guess you can leave the window open, can't you?
This way the toilet won't be freezing cold in winter as well due to blocked fan hole and opening window when needed
Does this create mold?
Thanks

Fan is more certain to remove smells whereas a window is just as likely to blow the smell indoors. It needs to be a decent fan though and there needs to be somewhere for replacement fresh air to come in such as a slightly open window on the upstairs landing, preferably on the south/west side of the house.

Fans don't need to be draughty, you can fit an external vent with a cowl and shutter to reduce draughts, if and you're fitting a new fan, pick one with a decent sprung back draught shutter.0
