Cap 1 searching every month

I have several Credit Cards. All are up to date with no discrepancies since 2011, then it was up to one month late on one card once! They are all used, but not maxed out! and I pay more than minimum amount to all without fail by Direct Debit.

I use Noddle and can see that the only searches over 2016 were from Capital One every month! I have 2 Capital One Cards and absolutely no problems.

Why is this so, and can they do this.

Yes, they can. I'd assume they're soft searches, for limit changes and repricing.

This seems abnormal as a lender will get credit updates without having to show additional searches on your file.

I have noticed that Capital One always do searches whenever you go on the offers section of Noddle and Clearscore. Could this be it?
  • Thank you for the replies. I do not go onto Noddle very often, perhaps 4 times in a year, and I don't use Clearscore.

I never ask for increased limits, one of their cards has never been increased, and the other at their own instigation about 12 months' ago.

My score on Noddle has always been 1/5, but as in OP 1 late payment in 2011 on one account, everything else is 'perfect', so not sure why I continually show as 'poor'. I have not asked for extra credit.

Generally speaking, you don't need to give consent for organisations to look at what the CRAs hold against you; contrary to popular belief.

Capital One perform soft searches on me every month as do a variety of car insurance companies.

In the Terms & Conditions somewhere there'll be a legal point telling you they'll do this (from sites like Noddle, Go Compare etc).
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

One has to wonder what, precisely, is the purpose of this, and what do they actually see (no one will answer this last point, presumably because no one really knows).
  • CapitalOne told me on the phone I'm not eligible for a credit limit increase, but I got a letter in the post the following month telling me they're doubling the limit.

Presumably the computer automagically updates your limit & the searches are part of it's due diligence.
NB: Complete guess on my part :D
