worth saving for the future
in fact its posible that their is a referance number that can be used on the DVLA letter you have recieved
DVLA's letter states the reference is "stay insured" all in lower case :rotfl: I just called them to see if they had a way I could do that and they insist if I have no proof I sold the vehicle then I am the registered keeper and there is nothing I can do about it....:mad:0 -
Okay so I need a bit more advice if possible please.
I've spoken to a manager at the dealership who purchased the bike off me and he informed me that it is not possible that I am the registered keeper as they fill in the new owner details and send it off to the DVLA every Friday. The bike was sold in September and the relevant paperwork was sent to the DVLA as what shows on their records and the customer has not called them to say that they haven't received any letters from the DVLA stating they are the new keepers which means that everything on the dealerships end has been sorted and they don't know what I'm talking about.
Going forward I'm not sure what to do. I have not been given a sales receipt from the dealership and they are refusing to produce one.
Is it possible that it will be impossible for me to prove that I am no longer the owner of this motorcycle and that would mean I'd have to continue paying the insurance or getting fines? as it states on the fine letter that I either have to declare it SORN or insure it AFTER I have paid the fine. Would giving the local police a ring and notifying them that I am not the owner of the vehicle do any justice if it is used in the future for parking infringements or other activities ?
Hope someone can help me as I'm quite concerned now.0 -
As has been suggested, write to DVLA and explain. Keep it brief and to the point.Thank you for your letter dated. Please be advised I sold m/c to Joe Bloggs & Co on date. I signed the V5 and gave it to them. Please find enclosed cheque for £100
You should have nothing further to worry about if your m/c has been taxed, MOTed and insured by the new keeper.

Dvla monitoring mse forum.... lol.
Write to them stating the vehicle was sold to x on y date and yellow slip posted. They usually just update records ime and move on.0 -
Dvla monitoring mse forum.... lol..Staff at the DVLA probably read this forum and the buyer of the motorbike, SUPERBIKEFACTORY, is named. It would not take much to link the OP's thread to his claim about having posted the form.
There are well over 5,000 staff at the DVLA.
The DVLA may or may not formally monitor forums but there is a real possibility that some of those staff read and post on here and might act if they saw a deliberate attempt at deception.
It might be a small risk but it is not one the OP or anyone else should take.

How it should happen:
You are selling to a trader? You give them the main V5C. You post the yellow V5C/3 slip to DVLA.
You are sellling to a private buyer? You give them the green V5C/2 slip. You post the main V5C to DVLA.
This is YOUR legal responsibility, and is clearly explained on the V5C itself. You had loads of opportunity to look at that over the two hours you were waiting for them to turn up.0
