    Thanks LilElvis,
There is not a discount over the Apple Store. Its just that you cannot buy all the specifications directly from Apple. e.g. look on the Apple website and find an 27" iMac with a 4.0 Ghz Skylake i7 processor. It refers to them but they are not listed on the website to purchase. They are made to order often via an Apple certified retailer. There is a dealer close to me who does the same thing building iMacs to order and charging similar prices but he doesn't cater for what I need.
The eBay seller is Apple Certified and the item comes with a 3 year Apple warranty.
I am more concerned that PayPal may treat this as a "Custom" item which may be outside their buyer protection policy.
You see lots of peole asking advice after they have made the decision. I am trying to ascertain my rights before I purchase :)

Check with Apple that they are a certified retailer and ensure you pay directly by credit card. If they won't take a card payment then continue your search for a seller who can offer you both. Apple will wring their hands and say "we would have helped, but ......." if they don't recognise the seller and your credit card provider will do the same if you use PayPal. Numerous threads on here from people who have found this out the hard way.

You do know you can customise macs on the apple store online?

    A 4.0Ghz skylake I7 processor is an extra £225.

May I ask how you found that information.Could you provide a link?

I have been round and round the Apple store and found mention of the options but not how to order.

In the end I have chatted today with a sales representative and got a quote for as near to what I need as I can, and its about the same price but none of the extras offered by the ebay reseller such as dual boot with Windows 10 licence and full version of Office 2016 professional etc etc.

Perhaps that's true but, as already pointed out, the E-Bay item won't provide support from Apple unless it comes from a certified retailer.

Remember, it's only "cheaper" if it provides the same or better specification with full after sales service...
  • Go to http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/imac

then scroll down, find the 3.3Ghz model (bottom right) and click on select. You then get the option of upgrading to a 4Ghz Quad core Intel i7 (which I understand is Skylake in the current lineup), that's another £225

If you're feeling flush with cash, you can also choose up to 32GB ram, a plethora of storage options and a graphics upgrade.
