I think there’s an algorithm in the MSE site somewhere to work it out….it works for new builds too. You have to work it back to what it would have been.
Edit to add link…there’s a calculator if you scroll down.

Thank you @WinterWarrior I've had a look and it appears they should be band E 🤔 but I think I might try and get to the local library and see if I can find archive information on house sales that time too.

    Do they have the deeds?

Old land/charge certificates may help, old transfers/conveyances will and bizarrely I've found historic completion statements which shouldn't be included!

All depends on who does the scheduling.

Good shout @peb I assume they do have the deeds as they are mortgage free. But would this show the prices previously paid?

Not if what they have is simply a copy of the updated title, known as a TID (title information document) came in in 2004 as a trial and I can't remember when became standard.

However the list of documents I set out above may have been supplied when they bought (depending on the lender and the time - don't remember every date/lender so don't bother trying to find out), when a lender got rid of documents in their deed store - Nationwide did this for example - or once charge (mortgage) paid off.  Lots of variables so you just will have to look for the documents I listed above I'm afraid.  If you need a hand I don't mind but I won't be able to help in the next few days - today was chemo day so am going to be out of it for a while

@peb They were cash buyers as they were downsizing so no lenders involved.

I hope chemo goes ok, my Mum went through it and had a rotten time with it.

That's a huge monthly increase! Have you spoken to the Council about affordability? Is there any help available?

    Hi All,

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to 2022.

I transferred my Christmas savings pot into my current account. I hadn't been as good at keeping a note of what I spent on gifts but 100% sure I didn't go over budget.  I've been paid for December so the Christmas pot 2022 has already started!

MrM usually gets a Christmas bonus but this year they have said it will be paid in February.  One of my 0% deals runs out in January so I need to move that in time. I have another that expires in March. Hopefully credit card companies are starting to offer some longer deals now.  I had knocked my payments down to cover our travelling expenses but now we're both wfh again I can up them again. I think I'll do it via manual payments rather than dd.

My car insurance also runs out at the end of January, I have had a quote from current supplier at £10 cheaper than last years premium. I will of course do the comparison sites, hopefully at the sweet spot of 22 days (I think it's that or around then) but my insurance is £174 a year so not bad and of course all saved for already.

I'm also going to try and get on board with ynab again.  Yes, I know you've heard me say this a LOT of times! 😂  I've done a "fresh start" yesterday so just need to remember to go on and update it. I'm also going back to the wallet app which I used to track my spending. I'd rather got out the habit and pretty sure I am "leaking" money so this will high-light those areas.

Finally I have taken over the Tilly Tidy challenge thread for 2022.  They guy who started it last year hasn't been on MSE for quite a while and although there were only a few of us, it was a helpful way of squirrelling the pennies away. Please come and say hello to the newbies for 2022.

My main aim for this year is to pay off more than last year I'll be happy if I can get £5k down or even sneak into the sub £20k debt bracket.

Happy New Year to you all! 🎉

  • I am jealous of your car insurance premium, I’ve been getting quotes for when I pass my test and even as a named driver on the policy of someone who has 20 years of no claims the premiums are more than the car is worth  😂  Hopefully it will come down a lot in the early years!

Your plans for 2022 sound good, I think you’ll smash your 5K goal and into the 19s. Fingers crossed for credit card deals, do you use the MSE credit club?

I downloaded the Emma app, I like that I can import my transactions and categorise them but as I’m only on the free version the categories are quite limited. I cannot add offline savings accounts either on the free version, so it is really just for budgeting monthly spending.

The paid-for version is more than YNAB (around £9 a month I think) and as far as I can see they don’t have a desktop version which is a bit of a pain as I like to flick between my spreadsheets and the budget, but being able to import transactions is a big plus. Anyway, I’ll stick with the freebie version for now and see how I get on (doesn’t feel worth paying for when I don’t have my normal outgoings for commuting etc)
