I am starting to get a little freaked out now. I was away for the weekend (using my Manchester restaurant meal prize) when the site went down last time & yesterday & today I was out doing Diploma stuff & it looks like the site went out again for a little while!

Once, OK a coincidence - but twice...? What is the site going to do when I return to work in December!! :D
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out

We stayed at a Holiday Inn Oldham Road which was pleasant enough :) The Obsidian Restaurant was not the sort of place where we would usually be found :D We didn't see a lot of Manchester as Saturday afternoon it was packed & a nightmare to try to walk around.

We had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table (all free of course!) & we felt a little out of place. The people in there were what I would call the 'beautiful & successful' people! staff were friendly though :)

When we were seated at our table, the waitress said, "The soup of the moment is cream of watercress & the game of the moment is pheasant" I thanked her & then turned to my BF nearly wetting myself with laughter at 'the moment' instead of what I'm used to 'the day' - also she confused me a bit as I thought briefly that we would be expected to sit at our table & play a game whilst waiting for food :rotfl: Sorry, but we aren't posh restaurant folk!

Then a waiter guy came over "Just to let you know we are out of pigs cheeks" said in such a serious voice! I managed to say thank you again quite graciously, then when he was gone I was in fits of quiet, shoulder rocking laughter about pigs cheeks! I've heard of other people eating pigs trotters but cheeks! :rotfl:

The food when it turned up was small to sufficient depending upon your appetite but it was the best tasting food I've had in ages! Don't get me started on my dessert of sticky toffee pudding & vanilla pod ice cream (which turned up in it's own tiny little dish - which I proceeded to dump into my pudding dish!) BF had chocolate something or other brioche, it looked really great & tasted amazing & when I asked the BF what it was he said 'do I look like the type of person who would know what a brioche is!?' which again got us both into the giggles.

We had a cocktail each at the bar & then 1 drink each at the table (beer & a vodka/diet coke) & 3 courses each which came to around £86. Again I have to say the staff were brilliant as they even said 'oh come on have another few drinks as you still have some of that voucher to spend!'

We enjoyed ourselves immensely & if it was in Kent it would be the type of place for very special occasions as a treat :)

Hope that satisfies your curiosity chickaroonee :)

Glad you enjoyed it VG. I love eating out but I don't think I am ever going to be one of the trendy crowd who goes to places like that all the time. Not so sure I'd be ordering pigs' cheeks either!!! :)

  • omg i have to tell someone i have been laughing so hard i can hardley breathe!
although i might be being silly but i put an offered on freecycle my title was offered - swimming pool lilo
my one and only reply was...
    how big is the pool!
    my reply.....
    no pool just lilo
    their reply....
mum wants to know what a lilo is
    my reply....
an inflatable matress you float on in a swimming pool
    their reply...
oh in that case we dont need one of those!

maybe i should not assume but thought most people knew what a lilo was mum said it was an old fashioned word though but i did laugh when they asked how big the pool was
