Fire proofing in under stairs cupboard

The previous owners of our house created a small storage area under the stairs by opening up the existing wall and partially boarding inside. They have left the underside the stairs open and there is no door on it either. We're thinking of turning it into a small den for the kids but first I want to make sure it's safe.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of where I can find out whether this would be compliant with building regs relating to fire.
Many thanks

There are no regs relating to that. They just need to be able to get out (and in, of course
)

Thanks doozergirl, so no requirement to protect the underside of the stairs in any way?0

Why does photobucket insist on making everything blurry for me now? Can anyone recommend me a better place to host pictures?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

They look pretty sharp to me, albeit small.

Photobucket, like many of the big hosts, has umpteen advertising entities lurking in it (23 when I last counted!) and takes ages to load for me, especially as my security software doesn't like some of them.

Thank you.When people post links to it on here it often diverts and I end up straight in the App Store with it trying to get me to buy something before I've even seen a picture.
I appreciate the need to monetise, but it is truly awful now and reminds me of the earlier internet days of hundreds of pop-ups!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
