Paypal Payment not showing in account

My wife bought an Iphone on ebay from a new seller for £350 ( I know, I know)

Paid via Paypal. Seller had been member since October 2016.

Seller then said that as they wouldn't be able to post for 3 days offered a 10% discount, which we agreed. ( found this slightly strange at the time).

Since then there has been no contact, the tracking number is completely made up and phone has not arrived. Ebay purchase shows paid by us on 26th Dec and dispatched on 28th Dec.

Funny thing is there is no record of the payment in Paypal Account, but the card linked to the account shows the payment to the seller.

Seller has no other items for sale.

It feels like a scam to me, but I am struggling to see how the seller benefits as we will get refund from ebay and they presumably debit the sellers account .

Also - why is the payment not showing up in Paypal?

Any thoughts appreciated. Will raise a INR case if not here by end weekend.

Thanks

Not sure if this could be done. Though sounds like they buying time with the 3 days so they can withdraw the money from paypal to a bank account or pre-payment card then shut everything down.
The registered card can just be a pre-payment card. IE money goes on that then they empty the pre-payment card of all monies.

It points to a scam of some sort. They probably not even in the UK!

Also what iphone was it. Was it an iphone 6? I am not up on iphone prices, but I assume it was vastly cheaper then other alternatives?

iphones are always the favourite scammer item, as they often sought after and the scammer can get a quick sale.

If they offering 10% off the item in return for allocated time it sounds like they haven't got the item in the first place. Would someone offer to lose £35 for a few days despatch. Sadly appears to be motive there!

IMHO of course, but I wouldn't bank on that phone arriving!

There was a refund scam on one of the Chinese selling sites. They would message you after payment saying they used a cheaper postage option by mistake and offered a small refund. You think a great seller and accept the refund.

Then the item doesnt arrive but the system showed that you had been refunded and the case was closed. I forget which site and payment method it was though.

I wonder if they have found a similar paypal glitch where they can get their money quickly by refunding a small amount?

Are you sure you paid via paypal and not a fake link? Contact paypal by phone.

    Thanks for replies.

Wife was on ebay watching the phone - iPhone 6s plus, and clicked on the Pay now button after winning. Was a full auction so not significantly cheaper than others.

Would have thought that even if there was a refund, the original Payment would have been in the Paypal account? Will follow up with Paypal tonight.

    He was a UK seller.

If the card was prepayment, how do ebay pursue seller for money back?

If payment has left your card and your wife paid exactly as stated in your post- ie via the paypal account then it has to be in your account somewhere, it may well have gone as an echeque though as it was funded via direct debt. The new view on paypal isn't always clear, so log into paypal again and double check around the date in case you missed it, then also check the bank account to make sure the payment you can see is going to paypal.

Also of course you should have got a paypal email after payment showing the details.

Regardless of all that personally I would open an INR as soon as possible (which is the day after the last estimated delivery date on ebay) . As you say if this has gone properly through ebay then there will be no issue at all in getting your money back. Don't delay though , although you are safe it would be nice to think that the scammer ends up paying and not paypal.

Lastly, although it doesn't really matter, when and how did the discount arise? You state wife bought and paid, was there a delay in paying so the amount paid was less the discount, or did she pay and receive a partial refund?

    Thanks Soolin

The actual discount was never actually actioned, just mentioned and agreed in ebay messages.

Will check Paypal again, but every other payment is showing.

I assume it shows on your eBay purchased page? When was the estimated delivery time, if that has now passed just open a claim for INR.

    Delivery date 31st December.

I think I know why it has not shown in Paypal. If I remember when you go and pay for something you have the option to select Paypal or other ( I think). She may have clicked a different card ( debit) linked to the account and paid that way.

Shows as paid in ebay Purchase history

Will ebay still refund if INR?

You should still have ebay protection but not paypal protection. Have you got the INR open yet, if not, get it open now as I see no reason to delay this any longer.
