i passed my test in november 2016, im 31 years of age and im unemployed due to a disability, ive purchsed my first car but im struggling with insurance, why cant i get it under 3000, its only a ford focus, i looked at other cars including 1.1 106 and was getting similar quotes
i just dont know what to do, i no im a new driver but im not 17 years old, the car wil be parked on a drive way and will do less than 4000 miles a year.

any one know why i cant get it under 3000, ive tried all the comparison sites and loads that arent on there (direct line were 4k+)

Employment status makes a big difference to premiums and I'd imagine being newly qualified would make it even higher.

I think the reasoning is that employed people mainly drive a set route each day they know well compared with an unemployed person who will be driving around searching for work in unfamiliar places and often in a stressed state.

it won't make a lot of difference, but its often cheaper insurance wise to leave your car on the road at night rather than on your drive

    Try:
    - Adding someone to the policy with experience
    - Changing the date of the policy start date for example not for the insurance to start on the car today but on the 26/01/2017

Worth Checking: Direct Line, Compare The Market, Money Super Market, Aswell as your Home Insurance Provider

Insurance will always be expensive for the first few years.

Wrong car in the wrong postcode area..

Its £3000 because you have not built up your upto 70% discount yet and shown the insurer your a safe bet.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • changing driveway to road have decreased it by £20, but adding named drivers seems to make it higher so wont add them.

the deposit is so high, i wouldn't mind the £200+ a month if the deposit wasnt 600+
  • Have you put "unemployed due to disability" rather than just "unemployed" as the occupation? It might be "not employed due to disability", I'll check the code list (which is common across most insurers) when I get into work.

Most insurers will steer clear of just "unemployed" but shouldn't have a problem if you key in that it's due to disability.

    Depends on your disability .

If you qualify for a mobility car that would be a better route to go.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

What type of named drivers have you tried? In my experience your best bet is a woman, aged over 50, with a clean licence, held for a long time, with their own car.

The code list option (which most insurers will have as an option for occupation) is "not employed due to disability".

'Unemployed' is a high risk factor. Dont know why but according to insurance companies it is. Also you could live in a postcode that simply makes it impossible to get car insurance at the 'cheaper' end. A bit of both and your looking at quotes of thousands for cheap, older low performance cars.
