This was an austerity measure I believe along with USC (Universal Social Charge) so could possibly end some time in the future.0 -
I think they charge stamp duty on bank cards / cheques too.
Probably best to look for free withdrawal etc than a local account.MyUsername wrote: »Just found out that in the Republic of Ireland there is a a 12c "stamp duty" on cash withdrawals to a maximum of €5 per year. The Irish government also apply a 30 euro annual stamp duty for every credit card you have - although its not applied to second cardholders on the same account. If you lose your card or its stolen they don't charge you 30 euro for the replacement!

Well someone has to fund Apple's generous corporation tax concessions!0 -
Why does it have to be with Ulsterbank, Permanent TSB have a free account and you don't pay the 30 euro card tax unless you are a ROI resident. I've had an account in the Republic of Ireland for years and never been charged the tax.

As do I, and I have never paid a fee. I will use my Halifax Clarity, Nationwide or Aqua CC or my Norwich & Peterborough debit card, all of which give me Euros without charge.
Unfortunately N&P debit cards, with no charge for cash withdrawals form overseas ATMs, are no linger available(for new applicants).0
