Shared equity with drug user!

Hi;

Just looking for a bit of advice about the following:

My mother in law wishes to leave her 1/3 share of her property to my 20 year old son.

Unfortunatly the other 2/3's are owned equally by her two sons who have had long term drug issues including addiction; using and a long past conviction for dealing.

If i am honest i don't want my son to have anything to do with the property and he isn't too fussed about it either however; the mother in law seems set on leaving her 1/3 to him.

He would never have any intention of moving in; i just wonder how he would be exposed to any legal issues resulting from a share in a property that is being used for drug related activity.

she can leave it to the local cats home for me but she has already told me that she is about to set up her will?

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!

Regards.

    What is her intention for the house - that is should be sold and one-third of the value given to your son or that the three beneficiaries will keep the house?

    If your son doesn't want anything from her estate, he can refuse his inheritance when the time comes - however the situation may have changed by then.

    Son can deal with executor & ask for the money. Need never meet the others unless they *are* the executors.

    When she dies he can appoint a solicitor to force a sale and have his share of the proceeds. He would have no need to have any contact with the miscreants.
