Booking a hotel through a travel website - covered by section 75?

We are going to Florida over Easter and have booked it all ourselves using our credit card. I presumed that gave us protection if something went wrong with the hotels but have been told we aren't covered as we booked the hotels through travel websites - one through netflights and one through hotels.com.
Can someone please clarify? Are we covered under section 75 if something went wrong with the hotel stays or not?
Originally we were going to buy travel insurance with end supplier failure but have now been told that won't cover us either as we didn't book directly with the hotels.
Can anyone help us with this? We just want peace of mind that if one of the companies went bust we would be covered.
Thanks.

Depends what you mean by covered.
The agents or consolidators will have liability to supply the accommodation, so will have to offer alternatives or refunds if this goes significantly wrong.
I received a section 75 claim for problems with otel.com and travel republic several years ago for a combination of failure to deliver accommodation and significant down grades to confirmed bookings.
Have you contacted the hotels directly to confirm they have bookings in your name?
Who has 'told' you that you aren't covered, are you expecting the intermediaries to go bust or the hotels themselves?0
