Faulty mobile phone

I bought a mobile phone as a Christmas present 4 weeks before. But the phone doesn't work. The provider only has a 14 day warranty for faulty goods and wants me to return the phone back for repair and refuses to give me a refund. Can they do this it's becoming a n ordeal and want to know what I can do next.

Where did you buy it from? How did you pay?
If it was from a business then the business has to prove that the goods are not faulty due to an inherent manufacturing defect within the first 6 months. If they cannot they need to refund, repair or replace but it's up to them which they can do.0 -
Even the cheapest new mobile will have a minimum 12m manufacturer's warranty, so claim under that. Or is this a secondhand or refurbed phone? What kind of retailer only gives a 2 weeks warranty though? No free lunch, and no free laptop
