Hi, what is the quickest and most effective way to treat small rust spots on a car? I have a small rust spot on the front wheel arch caused by a deep scratch. I have found a product called Hammerite Kurust, link here:

Is this worth it? I just want to prevent the rust from getting worse.
I know I can get some sand paper, primer and touch up paint but this will cost more.

What car is it on? :cool:You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0

What car and what part of the car?0

How easy is it to swap the wing? Might be worth it? If it's just a cheapo job. I would consider rubbing it down and then blending it in. You can't really touch up rust... doesn't work. You need to remove it.0

it depends on the value of the car, if its worth less than £1k I would rub it down with some emery paper, apply some krust then paint over it. doing this is not going to affect the value. If its new or on PCH you need to get it fixed properly, look for a local 'chipsaway' type company.0

Rub down; apply closest match of Smoothrite or Hammerite which can be applied directly to rust though its best to remove most; then if you are keen, paint over with a colour match spray paint/ touch-in paint for your car (either spray or if you are not confident, just spray some into the cap and paint it on with a brush).0

Kurust does work - I've used it for years. It turns rust into a dark purple solid substance that can be painted over. Try to avoid letting it run down the paintwork or it will stain.
But it only provides a long-term fix if there's no other ongoing cause for the rust. It's not a lot of use for a panel that's rusting out from the inside. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
