Best Card/account to use for Android Pay?

I am currently a Barclays customer, and they have gone their own way with mobile NFC (contactless) payments.
When Barclays own app works for contactless payment it works brilliantly.
The one gripe I have is that it too often requres me to go through the sign-up registering process too many times.
I understand the security aspect and respect that. However I think it's over the top.
It's embarrassing that it sometimes wont work till I've gone through the security set-up procedure. this I only find out when attempting a payment. and I have to be at home to sort this. (I still have my bank cards to use)
Is there a card/account that works with Android Pay and I can set up a direct debit or something to pay off the account, so that I can use Android Pay?
will be going to London later this month and don't want to be holding up the queue for the Tube

Do you have any other debit/credit cards with other banks - there are many non Barclays ones that are supported?
I have personally enrolled my First Direct bank account and credit card for Android Pay. Certainly not an endorsement for them as such but it works fine.
I don't know whether this was a condition of the banks signing up to the Android Pay system but it often has to go 'online' for authorisation - it is faster than the standard one for chip and pin, but the lag is still noticeable, whereas if you use your plastic card it goes to approved straight away.
Also, I would stick to using the plastic bank card on the tube, far too much potential for your phone to get wrecked, to hold up the queues if it is busy and also for you to run out of battery, if you are a heavy phone user!0 -
I don't have any other cards with any other banks, hence why I'm asking for recommendations.0

If you don't have any other accounts then you want to start looking at banks that pay interest on your savings. Nationwide pays 5% interest on balances up to £2500 so that's a good start and it's compatible with Android Pay.0 -
Nationwide, all debit cards and credit cards supported now.0

Just use your existing contactless debit/credit card.
I used Android pay at the start but now can't be bothered tbh.
I certainly wouldn't open an new account just for it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you join TSB for the 5% cashback on contactless payments, they are reportedly very harsh on their authentication checks - making the card be interested (and thus missing out on cashback).
However, using Android Pay that check is bypassed as your device counts as the authentication.
I used TSB Android Pay with no problem at all. 5% cashback for older customers ended 31st Dec so I don't bother with it now, and just use my credit card.0 -
I'd recommend TSB too. My 5% cash back ends on September 30 2017.
They also offer the same on their range of credit cards too (1% of £500 qualifying spend) which also expires at the end of September.
Don't know if Android Pay is the same as Apple Pay but is it possible to arm the device up to 60 seconds before the transaction? Appreciate you have to be careful but does save time at the Oyster barriers. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I found that, as long as you opened your phone via fingerprint, Android Pay could be used at the checkout at Aldi for amounts higher than £30.
Didn't work for the shopping bill when opened via pattern though.
Used it in conjunction with my TSB card for 5% return. That offer has now expired so I now just use cards and don't bother with android pay any more.
Couldn't see the difference between taking phone out, opening phone, switching on NFC, tapping phone, to opening wallet, removing card and tapping pay point with card.
Where there is no benefit, I shall stick to card.
Admittedly, I did like the 'receipt' that showed on the phone instead of a load of till receipts, however, like another poster has mentioned, it is just extra personal data being shared with google who probably know a shed load about me already.0
