Easiest way to cancel sky?

Now I'm at the end of my Sky contract I've decided to give Virgin a go as they've offered an extremely good deal. Trouble is I now need to cancel my Sky services and I don't want to have a massive debate about it or sit through a sales pitch - what is the best way to avoid this?

I wrote a recorded delivery letter to their Livingston address and said my decision to leave was irrevocable and I did not want subsequent phone calls from them.
They did call me back but only to acknowledge receipt of the letter and confirm the termination date.

Have had regular monthly calls since and mail shots offering special deals but 6 months later they seem to have written me off as a lost cause.

They're going to try and retain you regardless (every company would), so just phone them up and ask for no contact by phone.

Besides which if you've already picked a package with Virgin they may try and match or even beat it. They can't do that if you won't listen.

You should be able to avoid this easily enough by simply responding to the operator's questions with the statement "I just want to give my cancellation notice " or similar. Just be firm with them and refuse to co-operate if they try to engage you in debate.

You can also avoid return phone calls (and indeed any contact) by setting your marketing preferences in "MySky" .

I phoned and cancelled within 5 minutes. Being on just the Original package, anyway and mentioning affordability may have helped.

They did try offering 50% off for 10 months, but that was soon abandoned when I pointed out that this was effectively just above 40% over all.

Better deals follow, with the best after switch off.

If you are only considering tv, it is better to wait for this to happen, before committing to Virgin, as they have been giving very good offers; namely 75% off with £100 credit.
  • Virgin are giving me all their new kit, full TV with movies, 200mb internet and phone for only £55pm and no activation fee.

For sky to match that they'd need to upgrade to to Sky Q, Firbre max and top TV package with movies for less. I can't imagine that happening even with substantial discounts and I can't be bothered playing games like cancelling and then rejoining after.

Then just call them and tell what Virgin are offering, they'll say they can't match that and you cancel. Couldn't be easier.

It's not as outlandish as it might appear, though I accept SkyQ is unlikely to be offered.
