What can I do about this?

I bought an Ikea bed frame two years ago, the Hemnes double bed frame and started to have problems with it about last year, the wooden slats would suddenly collapse when and the mattress would cave in the middle. Now a metal hook where the base holds the frames together has broken off. I have called Ikea and they say beds are only guaranteed for one year, so I can't take it back. (Not really sure what my rights are regarding this?)
I don't really want to buy another Ikea frame as I have had nothing but hassle with this one, but I like the mattress, it was one of the most expensive ones from there and is very comfortable, but I know Ikea have funny sizes that don't really fit frames here. Is there somewhere I can buy bed frames that fit Ikea sizes or do I have to order from EU countries?
Please help.
Thank you

You have no rights about the bed
Im going to guess it was a cheap frame as those sort of problems happen with cheaper frames after a while as the support isnt enough
If it was an expensive bed quote SOGA that it should last a long time however if it was a £100-£200 cheap frame one you wont have a hope0 -
Can I point out that this is the 'vent' board ... not the 'look at me I am a sexual tyrannasaurus rex in the sack and can make beds collapse' board ... I am feeling quite inadequate ... ours lasted 4 years before it collapsed .. I mustn't be getting my fair share
I know that SOGA does talk about fit for purpose and that something should last a reasonable amount of time however jumping from on top of the wardrobe wearing a spider man outfit can not only play havoc with the bed supports but also several back vertbrae .... ahem, so I am told.

Hope im not hijacking this thread, but its similar in a way, so thought i would add it here.
Just wanting a bit of advice prior to taking an item back, as I rarely return things and get a bit anxious!
I bought a quilt cover set from Ikea a few months ago, and after a couple of washes some of the piping started to fray in several areas, so I assume i could return it as being faulty, however I can not find the reciept, it was £45 which is quite an expense to me.
Does anyone know Ikeas policy about returning a faulty product without a reciept? (it is quite obvious it is an ikea product) I would be happy to have a replacement or credit voucher if they do that.
I have looked in their catalogue and it just says you can take items back if you change your mind with reciept, and this is in addition to 'statutory rights'
is this the sale of goods act?
Im also wondering if I can call it faulty, as its not actually falling to bits, so it could be used (but looks shabby) its about the quality really.

We had a similar problem with a Hemnes bed frame - about two months after we bought it the slats started coming off the midbeam, the slats would fall off and the mattress would collapse in the middle. Tbh, I think the midbeam is too thin and it's a real problem if you've got a partner who is heavier or lighter than you, as the slats are pushed unevenly and one side ends up falling off. We tried a new midbeam but it didn't work, so eventually, with a bit of fiddling, we've sorted the problem. We folded up some cardboard and pushed it down the side of the slats at one side, and it seemed to solve it. We also got some soft cord and threaded it through the slats, wrapping it round the midbeam. It's not ideal but at least we can sleep without suddenly waking up on the floor! We do wish we'd bought a better bed, but at the time it was a matter of economy and we had to get what we could afford.0

Well guys i read this and basically some of the things were right and some didnt work...
With my bed, the slats kept collapsing.
this was due to the X-frame not holding the sides of the bed in, so as they went apart (usually due to me and my gf moving about too uch) the slats collapsed down the middle. to fix:
get better screws.at least 14 i used nuts and bolts. took matress and slats off. ulled the X-frame tight as possible and bolted the two halves of each of the four arms together. Job Done. or so i thought.
this solved the problem for a while, but then this put pressure on th main support beam up the middle. as weight was put on the x-frame this caused lateral rotation to the beam.
the beam is made of two parts and the larger would spin about the smaller one, and then the beam would collapse....bringing the matress crashing through. to fix:
what finally worked with mine was to take the two halves of the beam out from the bed. pull the sides of the little one wider and the larger ones together making them fit much more tighltly - almost to the point that they would not connect. then get gaffer tape and at about 5 eqaul intervals where the beam overlaps, squeeze the two parts of the beam together as tightly as possible and wrap round with gaffer tape about 5 times. as tightly as possible.
Job Done
its not had any problems since! good luck to anyone else. but this way works.0 -

Hi lindos90
We took a coffee table back to ikea a while ago. We'd thrown the box away as we'd had it for about 4 months. It was wobbly and nothing to do with how it had been put together. Rang them first and they said they'd have a look at it. When we took it back I said we'd spoke to someone on the phone who'd told us to bring it in and they just refunded with the receipt no problem. Maybe just give them a ring first. Hope that helps. x
Sorry just seen you haven't the receipt. Still ring them and explain, I'm sure they'd swap it for you, you've not had it that long. xOfficial DFW Nerd Club Member no:219In the Court Of The Crimson KingI don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.Gary Larson0 -

Wouldn't it have been easier to build yourself a bed in the first place instead of buying it from Ikea?
I get slated for saying that Ikea beds and mattresses are poor qualty because people say I'm just slagging off the competition (for those who don't know I sell beds). Well hopefully this thread will prove that I am only telling the truth, and giving advice as someone who does know about beds.0
