Christmas post - interferred with

Curious if anyone else has experienced problems.

I have two relatives in the 'London area' - one central, and the other just within the northern part of the M25. Both received Christmas cards that had been 'interfered' with - for example one had strips of sellotape all over the back, and another where the address was overlaid with a re-addressed label - which was not that well written.

Of the three cards interfered with, two were sent from South Africa, with the other - a large card - from Cardiff.

Any thoughts. Accident, or someone looking .... ?

It's a minor miracle that post made it out of South Africa. We've packed in sending cards (and parcels unless it's valuable enough to warrant fedex) to SA. Less than a 50% chance of it arriving and ditto for our friends sending anything to us.

Why would the address be overlaid with another address label?

I have had a birthday card sent 1st class take 10 days to arrive and be open on arrival.

I'm curious what happens to post in these circumstances. A relative posts two Christmas cards - one to me and one to my parents at the same post box at the same time. Both are for the same sub sorting office. My parents got theirs ten days after I got mine.

There have been instances of where posties have been opening envelopes and taking anything of value - money, gift cards, small gifts or hoard them

  • I am still waiting for a birthday card to arrive that my dad posted on 12 Dec. I know it's not going to turn up but the silly man put cash in the envelope despite me telling him every year not to.
  • Maybe they were inspected by customs. All letters are sent at the senders own risk.

I know if you post anything with a letter to Canada and has a letter, it costs more. Why? Probably checking if there is a letter.

We had the same issue, just the one slightly larger xmas card. A printed label stuck over the handwritten address which was perfectly readable and all correct.

It did puzzle me as to why a label was stuck over a perfectly good address.

I've had a birthday card arrived, perfectly ripped open. Looked most likely someone looking for money (there wasn't any in the first place). With the many temps over Christmas who knows if this was the same thing?
