Which fryer?

Is the Breville Halo an airfryer like the actifry? The pic didn't look like it had the 'paddle'? I've been desperate for an actifry but this thread has put me off a bit! I won't be buying a deep fat fryer but would like a way of doing healthy chips and roasties.0

Thought you might have gone for the Magimix one suki1964

Blimey it is quite pricey though for a fryer!0 -

No - The Halo uses halogen technology with a fan and the pan inside turns.
If you look at the Amazon link I posted above then there is a video as part of the listing.:hello:0 -
Does the Halo make nice chips? I've been put off the actifry.
I did have a deep fat fryer and used beef dripping. It made the most delicious chips but I couldn't stick the lingering smell, and I didn't like the thought of grease floating about the house dirtying everything. The cleaning was a nightmare too.
I'm still looking for something that makes chips as nice as the local chippy, or close to it

The halo chips turn out like oven chips - they do go crispy around the edges and I use a crinkle cutter on the potatoes which helps.
You won't get anything to produce chip shop style chips without deep frying - that's why they taste so good.... because they're bad

That's what advertising and marketing has done for the food industry.Well I took on board your comments and went out shopping today
Thought long and hard and realised the actifry/air fryers weren't going to work for my intended purposes
So bought an deep fat fryer
I'm laughing cos all the displays were full of steamers, magic bullet type things, juicers etc, all promoting healthy eating, and I'm in buying a fryer
It's quite bigger then I thought I'd get but it filters and stores the oil and it all goes in the dishwasher
The oil being filtered and stored in a tank is what swung it. I'll not be tempted to do chips because the pan is full of oil
A deep fat fryer filled with lard is much healthier than any of the fancy 'air' fryers that use cooking oil.0
