Can someone please check my maths on holiday entitlement
I work a basic 4 on 4 off 12 hours shift pattern, so 42 hours a week.
Gov website says 19.6 12 hour holidays. However we don't get paid 12 hours on a holiday we only get 8. Doesn't this mean it would become 28 days holiday at 8 hours? They are saying 22, which i cannot understand.
Another way to look is at annualised hours of which I would work around 2180 which would give 263 hours holiday. 22*8 is only 176 so again seems well off.

A 42 hour week is an 8.4 hour day taken over the usual 5 day week. If you then take off any unpaid breaks (are your breaks paid?) that would pretty much equate to an 8 hour day.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

We have no breaks (security). Basically there are saying I should get 22 days holiday paid at 8 hours, so 176 hours annual leave. I believe this is wrong and should be 22 at 12 hours (264)?
I ran the numbers just using annualised hours (42*52=2184) and that also comes back as 263.0 -
hmm so after some to and fro they said the 8 hours they paid was wrong and should be 9.6. So 22 days at 9.6 hours = 211 hours per year. Does this look right? Definitely better than where I started!0

So you work 42 hours a week (average) consistently over the year (ie, effectively full time)? If so, I would calculate it as:
* 28 days paid at a rate of 8.4 hours (because a 42 hour week for a 'standard' working week is 8.4 hours a day) = 235.2 hours paid leave. They can't round it down, only up.
This assumes that you are on a day rate / salaried rate rather than hourly.
I think you picked the wrong calculator on the govt website, as it's assumed you're working a 4 day week, and you're not, you're working irregular hours (for AL calculations, anyway!).
I think your workplace have confused two calculations:
* They've calculated the days (19.6) by taking the 235.2 hours and putting it into days - this is correct
* But they are paying you an 'office' day of 8 hours rather than than the 12. They've missed that it's 19.6 x 12 hours. This may be a 'computer system' thing that it's made an assumption of a paid leave day.
The way to rectify it is to:
* Calculate using hours only and NOT translate it into days (by far the easiest) OR
* Pay you in 8 hour days, but then you need to have 29.4 days paid leave
But you're right - it's incorrect.

I'm not sure why the annulised hours come out different (i'm just doing 42*52 and the calculator says 263 days holiday per year which is too high), but i get 19.6 lots of 12 hours (235) when doing it via the shift calculator which agrees with yourselves. They are now saying 22 lots of 9.6 (211) which is still lower than

What are you paid if you work a bank holiday?
double time if we work a bank holiday (do you think they are taking this out of our holiday pay? Would be legal as far as I can tell but sneaky)

only since July but am doing everything on a year basis to keep things simpler0 -
4 on/off (same hours per shift) is well known as a 3.5 day week
statutory holiday is 19.6 days if the normal full timers get 28 days
if you are getting 22 @ 8 they are short. needs to be at least 10.70 -
