False advertising of free wifi for hotel booking

  • How much will wifi cost whilst you are there? I appreciate it's the principle of the issue but if you can tether to your phone or it's not that expensive it may not be worth the headache of trying to enforce your rights here.

According to the BT website, wifi is £10 a day and it's a 7-day stay... and we don't have smartphones so have no other option for connecting to the internet.

Just to check, are you a BT broadband customer, as they get free wifi access. It's also £25 for 5 days if you do have to pay.

I'm not going to be judgemental here as you obviously have your reasons for wanting access (not least because it was offered for free) but one of the delights for me of going on holiday is no internet access. (Doubly so when I visited North Korea, they confiscated my mobile phone for the duration of my stay).

No I'm not a BT customer. Wifi is important for us for checking the mountain forecast and radar before hiking. And also to look up opening times etc of any attractions that escaped the guide book.

How did you/me/anybody check the forecast etc. in the days before Wi-Fi and mobiles? Doesn't help your problem but, since you have already received helpful advice, I just thought I would ask. I also get teed off by the promise of "free" Wi-Fi which turns out to be anything but and not very fast or reliable once you have jumped through their hoops by giving e-mail addresses and promising them your firstborn to get it.

    Hi

Have you actually spoken to the self catering place you are staying at?

We have a gite in France where we offer WiFi - not worth us trying to charge for it - people just expect WiFi to be available - I am surprised that a SC place would try & charge.

After a few more emails back and forth they finally decided to waive the wifi fee, and said they would correct their add. Phew!
