Rough idea of 1st and 2nd fix Electrics cost?

Hi there,
I wondered if anyone could help with a ballpark figure of the above please?
I have posed a similar question already which has been answered with some help on the elecs pricing included in the plumbing pricing (thanks Canucklehead!), but I really need an idea of separate elecs cost too.
I have a 2 storey extension which comprises of the following 1st fixed elec 'stuff':
16 double sockets
2 single sockets
2 TV points
2 'phone points
5 light fittings (2 of which will be halogen if it makes a difference?)
5 light switches
1 wiring for an outside light
I also believe some fans are needed? Shower room? Utility room? There is also a small W.C room too, but not sure if fan needed there?
I am in dispute over the cost of the 1st and 2nd fix as it has come in way over the original estimate from my builders so need to establish if the estimate was wrong or whether the builders are having me on and adding far too much to the bill.
Any help most welcomed - apart from Canucklehead - you are banned from answering. Go for a rest or a beer, mate - you seem to spend far too much time on here helping others! Only kidding, feel free to give your input!

Ball park- £1155; based on 33 items at £35
If job is simple (easy access etc) then @ £25 per item =£825
Extras may be:
Awkwardness - cutting out fan with core cutter (may be £120 inc fan @£73 60 ltr per sec extract)
No bonding in for water and gas (may add upto £200 if awkward)
No RCD on sockets (may require new seperate consumer unit new replacement)
Worst case scenario £1155+£100(bonding)+£250(cons unit) = £1505
Realistic scenario (most jobs) £1200 (easier job complete with new consumer unit)baldly going on...0 -
Hi,
Thanks very much for that - at least I have some idea of things now. Access is easy - all floorboards up and at the time of the 1st fix there wasn't any plasterboard up so the wires were just fed up (down?!) behind where the P/board is now.
I don't suppose you are able to roughly split the 1st and 2nd fix costs down at all please?
Reason being that the guy who did the 1st fix isn't doing the 2nd fix, but my builders who hired the 1st fix guys won't reveal how much they charged and has just lumped the plumbing and elec costs together. Long story that I won't bore you all with on this gloomy Sunday morning!
Thanks again for any further advice - have a nice Sunday!0 -
The rate should be around £35-£40 per hour plus an estimated materials cost of £200-£300 depending what was used.
When I give a price the total price for install work breaks down as follows
1/3 materials
1/3 profit
1/3 business costs (wages overeheads etc)
So a first fix price shouls be around 60%
Expect to pay another 60% to complete job as you may pay a premium for someone else to complete anothers work.
I do inspection and testing but am still reluctant to certify anothers work - if I do it involves a lot of extra time ( if you install a job you don't need to recheck the cable runs as you did it)
You should use a competent person for the work, links below

Thanks again for your very useful post - I now know roughly how much I've been fleeced out of with regards to the first fix!
You live and learn eh?! :mad:0 -
Sorry to hear about your problems.
It gets on my goat when people get ripped off. It happens to electricians too.
I had a builder stop a cheque as he said £37.50 per hour (total for me AND an apprentice)
It happens to us all.
I am fortunately to be booked until 28th October. And getting more calls daily.baldly going on...0
