One possible caveat: I am not a 100% sure, but I believe you can only open an account in branch, and they don't have any further north than Cambridge or further west than Newbury...

Post office credit card for purchases

Nationwide flex plus for cash withdrawals - if you add in the travel insurance, breakdown cover, extended warranty and mobile cover and 3% interest the £10 monthly fee is worth it.

If you go with a Nationwide Flex Plus (or have a Nationwide current account already), might as well get the Nationwide Select credit card too - it's both fee free on foreign spending and also 0% interest on purchases for 12 months. Don't use it for cash withdrawals though.

Monzo. No fees, Mastercard exchange rate, instant in-app notifications and security based on your mobile phone being located at the same place as your transaction.

Currently in beta, with a pre-pay debit card and a limited banking licence, but soon to become a fully-fledged UK bank.

Ignoring withdrawls for the second... and thinking about Supercard & Monzo.

Scenario: I'm sat at home in the UK, and purchase something from ebay.com in $USD. Currently, I receive a "non-sterling transaction fee" when paying using my "current Current Account". Am I right to assume there would be no such fee with Supercard and Monzo?
