Amazon book return

Ordered a room on the broom book and DVD for my little one yesterday. It arrived today but the book was an American version and certain words and rhyming structure was different to what he is used to.

I submitted a request to return the book and was amazed to find out that I have been refunded immediately (as it was with an Amazon gift voucher that I bought the book) and they said that they don't even want the book back!

I am baffled at the fact that they don't want the book back. I wonder if this system is open to abuse and how many people order books, read them and try to return them but end up keeping them anyway.

Amazon cs is very good with items that people do not want and at times with some cheaper product can refund but state not to return {poss to much hassle to go through the restocking}.
It can be open to abuse but I believe they have systems in place to watch who does what and in a situation like that would very quickly close accounts with the people abusing them.
The only other company personally I know that is the same in the UK is Lakeland where due to damaged or not working products after informing them have not even asked for photos/proof and have either just refunded or replaced.
It is good to find companies that put the customer first but I am afraid that like many things some people will try to take advantage and that IMO makes it bad for most law abiding people.
  • We had a similar experience with Amazon last week. My sister ordered a Pink Floyd vinyl album for my son. When it arrived (shrink wrapped), it had a 3" scratch on one side. When she put in the details to return, it stated that it wasn't eligible. My sister entered a web chat with Customer Services and explained the problem. The CS rep arranged an immediate replacement and said that we could either dispose, donate or keep the damaged album. My delighted son is mounting both records that comprise the album into frames that he received for Christmas.

    Great service.

If you're just going to put them into frames did it matter that one side had a scratch on it?

He's going to play them. He just happened to receive two record frames for Christmas. He had no idea which records to put into the frames when he received them, because he enjoys playing his records on an old record player. Because the album had a scratched side, and Amazon said to keep it, my son now has two 'spare' records that he can frame. He always intended to listen to the records. He didn't know that he would receive the frames.

It absolutely is open to abuse, but Amazon are big enough they don't care. The thing to bear in mind is they don't just do this with things they sell directly, but with third party sales as well. The people who get hit are those who sell through Amazon, and find Amazon has made refunds on their behalf.

That brings back memories of 1970s record buying

He's collected a number of 70s records, as well as swiping some of mine (mainly 80s stuff) from the loft. His idea of bliss is to mooch in the local hospice shop among the vinyl - they have a decent selection of records at 50p for an LP and 20p for a single.
