I use PQDVD which does the trick fine - takes stuff straight from DVD and converts it to iPod MP4 format. Copy it to your ipod and away you go. It also allows you to convert other file types - I use it to convert DivX and .AVI files as well.
It cost me though - $39 - about £20, but I think it was worth it to be able to watch Dr Who on holiday, especially with the iPod video out cable, so we could use it as a portable movie player!

I just got one!

I checked half an hour ago upon reading this thread and they were showing out of stock, but checked again 10 mins ago and they were showing 2 in stock. I added the pens to get free delivery and tried various codes from HDUK as the one suggested here did not work for me (I'm not a new customer). I did get the £10 off £50 spend one to work. I'm not allowed to post the code here, but it is the one beginning with L and ending in 4.

Just back in stock and ordered via Quidco getting I think an extra 5% off.
Note that it was still showing as out of stock via link but I searched for it in the site and it appeared with 5 left.

I think you just need to be persistent and don't rely on the JL email notifier. I managed to find it in stock and come out of the site delete my cookies and log back in via Quidco and it still had the 5 left. I have been checking back every 2 mins or so though.
