First Bike in the UK

Dear all,

happy new year! I’m writing to you because I’m thinking about buying and insuring a motorcycle for the first time in the UK.

My scenario is:

- I’m 31, had my Full Motorcycle license since 2008, and a full car EU license since 2003 and never had an accident;
- I had a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (2011 model) back in Italy, which I have sold, and never had claims on that;
- I am looking for a Ducati 959 Panigale over here;
- I moved to the UK on Sep 2012;
- my license is full EU (might apply to get it converted to Full UK).

The situation will be:

- bike stored in a garage;
- I’ll be the only driver;
- I’ll fit data tag (or similar) + mechanical anti theft devices;

Do you know of any policy that might suit my needs?
Is there any chance I can carry my NCB from the Italian provider?

I look forward to hearing from you,
thank you so much for your time!!

All the best,

Stefano

    The best motorcycle insurance comparison website is called "The Bike Insurer", but the car comparison websites (ComparetheMarket, MoneySupermarket, etc) also cover bikes. Put your details in and see.

    Motorbike insurance cost is currently heavily driven by theft, so where you like will be a massive factor. FYI, all new bikes now come with DataTag as standard, and as a result thieves have typically started targeting 3-5 year old bikes instead of new ones.

    On the NCB, don't know, but you can ask - some might, others won't.

    Good luck. Awesome choice of bike!

    For cars most insurers only accept NCB less than two years old. I expect bike insurers are the same.
