Project NEXUS

Project NEXUS was due for rollout in Autumn 2015 and then it was delayed a year. The project is designed, inter alia, to automate IGT gas supply transfers. From the Ofgem website:

We remain disappointed that Ofgem has had to step in to take on an active sponsorship role for Project Nexus; a programme for which industry is responsible for delivering. Moreover, we are disappointed that it has again proven necessary to reassess progress against the programme milestones and take the decision to delay implementation and, therefore, the delivery of consumer benefits arising from Project Nexus.

However, in our opinion, the risks to consumers of pursing a 1 October 2016 go-live are too significant for us to allow industry to continue targeting that date. There was no new evidence identified through the consultation which ruled out option C as a viable scenario.

The new planned Go Live date is February to April 2017. Watch this space.

Project Nexus has been delayed and delayed. I'm unsure as to the exact reasons why, but with the National Grid having other investment priorities (following the sale of the Gas Distribution Business) and as noted (surprisingly only by E.ON officially), it could be the case that either NG don't want to invest in Nexus, because of the impending sale or that management oversight perhaps could be lacking.

To quote E.ON's response to the NG Gas distrubtion business as per: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/national-grid-sale-gas-distribution-network-business-consultation-regulatory-aspects (Responses: National Grid sale of Gas Distribution Network business – consultation on regulatory aspects)
Although we do not have sight of the specific details involved from the consultation it would seem that Xoserve is currently a subsidiary of National Grid as it owns the majority of its shares. Once the sale and share transfer has taken place this would no longer be the case and National Grid would no longer have a controlling stake in the company.
It has not been made clear to us what implications that this may have for the operational delivery of the business and the staff that are currently employed in the organisation. For example we have been told anecdotally that Xoserve staff are currently members of the National Grid pension scheme. Changes to these arrangements may have an impact on the moral and level of service that we receive from Xoserve.
Considering Xoserve is currently in the process of delivering Project Nexus which has significant implications for users of its services and ultimately for all gas consumers in the Great Britain we would like more reassurance and evidence that services will not be affected by these proposals.

Must say, disappointed the firm that I work for didn't pick up on this or respond it seems. Well Done, E.ON and to some degree SSE for bringing this up.
Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!
