Should I cancel credit cards before applying for mortgage

Myself and my partner are saving up for a mortgage But wanted some advice about credit cards and mortgages

We're about 3 months away from hopefully putting wheels in motion to get a mortgage. We've got about £7000 between us in help to bug isas. However over the years I've racked up overdraft and credit card debts. I've had 6 credit cards over last few years and had around £8000s debt at one point. However over last 12 months I've got this down to £1600 on an mbna money transfer card and this is my only debt now.

My question is should I close all my credit card accounts down that I don't use? I put all my purchases on barclaycard and Tesco clcard credit cards any pay these off in full every month. The other three cards I don't use at all although I have had one of them for a couple of years. Also i still have an overdraft of £2000 on my NatWest account on student days. Should I get rid of this or just leave it now :)

My other question is should I pay off the mbna credit card now or just leave it be? I've got it 0% on my money transfer for about 3 years I think. I'm not sure whether to pay off all now or just leave it and pay on a monthly basis over the 3 years.

Have you spoken to a financial advisor?

Mine recommended that i didn't close my credit card, and instead show that i can pay it back each month without default.
Sometimes closing the account can have an adverse affect, although a FA can obviously look at your personal circumstances as that may be different for you!
