Is car tax reminder automatic?

Now that car tax is paid and renewed on line, will I get sent an online reminder? I know mine is due around now but to be honest cannot remember exactly when.

Yes as long as you've not moved from the address your car is registered at. Check on the DVLA website to see when your tax is due,

I am not so sure about an on-line reminder, how will that work? You do get a reminder in the post and that contains the code you need to go on-line and renew your car tax or VED (whatever it is called this week!)

No. You still get the reminder in the post. That has not changed.

Unless it's DD - and then it's just automatically renewed, assuming the car is MOT'd.

To avoid hassle I've set up direct debits for both our cars to pay the road tax every year. Avoids any risk of reminders going missing, postal strikes, etc and tax not being paid.
