in Credit cards
I have had varying levels of success previously with Paypal when buying stuff. I use one credit card for Paypal and each transaction is made using that card. I never use the balance, if I have one I withdraw it first. This way I can see exactly what has been spent, with whom and when.
The problem arises when a problem occurs. In the past (about 4 years ago) I managed to reclaim some funds from a credit card towards faulty aquarium lights purchased using Paypal after the time period from Paypal was up, using section 75. There seem to be mixed answers as to whether this is possible now.
My situation is a car repair paid for by credit card via Paypal about 12 months ago. The garage has closed and it has been shown that they fitted the wrong part initially which has caused it to fail prematurely again. Is it worth me trying to pursue this or just write it off?
Thanks
Mark

I was going to say no, however looking at Which's website this is their take on it'
Payments through PayPal
There are legal arguments that having another party involved in the transaction process takes away the Section 75 protection. However, if you use your credit card to pay for something through PayPal and the funds go direct to the seller, then as long as the company you're buying from has a 'Commercial Entity Agreement' with PayPal you may still be able to claim against your credit card company under Section 75 for any misrepresentation or breach of contract by the seller.

PayPal also offers its own buyer protection scheme, called PayPal Buyer Protection, so it's worth checking if you'd be covered by that if you have a problem with your purchase.
If you particularly want to have the protection of Section 75 then try to pay the trader direct with your card.
Whilst also looking on Which they say the following about Paypal which you may already know and what prompted the question.
PayPal Buyer Protection exceptions
Some items are not covered buy the scheme including complaints related to cars and other vehicles, flights, custom-made items and eBay classified advertisements.
I'm not personally a fan of Paypal and use them as a last resort, and rarely for transactions over £100. Good luck!0 -
Not sure why I used it myself as it was a face to face transaction. If I remember, the garage said the merchant account was for another part of the business, so they used PP in the garage. Didn't thik a lot of it at the time as I have had a lot of stuff from there before with no problems. Am going to give it a go anyway. Fingers crossed...0
