Santander Select

Hi all

I have a question regarding Santander Select and I would be grateful for any feedback and advice.

I am wondering if although my personal “salary” is below £5k per month requirement, if I transfer money into my account which tops this up to slightly over £5k, would this be eligible for the upgrade? I have an offer for 0% for a money transfer from another credit card (which I thought would be a good idea to borrow this and put the money in the 123 account for maximum interest and take the minimum out each month to cover the repayments, of course – once the 0% ends; I’ll just pay it off from the 123 account)

My reason for wanting this is that I have a lot of products with Santander (savings, credit card, home insurance) and a the Select card is free to use in other Santander machines worldwide – which is something I would hugely benefit from as I am often on holiday in the NY area and Latin America.

Do you have to keep the £5k going through or once you are upgraded – that is it?

Thanks for your help.

The problem you will have is you cant apply for a select account . They are by invitation only . I also know that some on here who have claimed to fulfill the criteria , but have never been offered. Make of that what you will.
You also need the gold debit card for free over seas transactions , so you actually need a Santander select gold account. I have one and no I don't earn 5k month but I do make the criteria just by using the account as a hub for all my payments. I was probably doing this for about 18 months before I was given it. The other thing that appears to happen judging by posts on here ,is that they do it in blocks of customers occasionally as apposed to an on going processes of when someone makes the criteria.
  • Thanks for your reply!

I was under the impression you can join as their website says either call or visit the branch. I was wondering if the call they look at your account and then decide from there?

We were invited to be santander select a few years ago. Not sure what the criteria is but we don't have £5k going into our account now each month and never did. We did have a large savings balance though when we had fixed term cash isas (at 4% no less) and an e saver at 3.5% plus the santander 123 when rates were better so there is a variety of criteria.

I am not sure I would wish to do as you are planning and stooze on the assumption this will encourage them to upgrade you. Why not contact them to see if you are eligible first? Having slightly better rates offered to us is quite good and the personal banker telephone number but apart from that it is nothing special.

  • Out of interest, does anybody have a list of the benefits of Select?

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • You can apply yourself, just give the contact centre a call and advise them that you meet the criteria with the 5k a month, it does not need to be from a salary, they just need to see a credit turnover of at least 5k for the last 3 months

I've been Select for a few years but there's very little benefit other than the gold debit card giving a larger daily ATM withdrawal limit and no FX fee when using (the relatively rare except in a few specific locations) Santander ATMs abroad.

I recently downgraded my 123 a/c to a 123 lite and was quite happy to lose my Select status if this triggered it, but as it happens it didn't.
