Virgin Superhub 2 & External modem

I'm looking at getting a modem to setup as a VPN client on my home network. My brother suggested the TP-LINK TL-ER6020 but will it work with the Virgin Media Superhub? I can't see anywhere that it says it's compatible with Fibre Optic broadband.

    You put the superhub into modem mode and then connect the router you buy to the superhub/ now the modem, link the 2 using an ethernet cable.

    I cant comment on the VPN side though.

    You want an external router, the Virgin device will remain the modem as it's linked to the fibre.

    I have an Asus RT-AC68U and it has comprehensive options for creating an always on VPN for all the connected devices in the house to use.

    NB GCHQ/NSA isn't interested in you.

    They probably aren't interested in me either but I still run a VPN on my home router. It allows me to have no ports open to the web (other than the VPN itself which is pretty secure) and yet still access everything on my network while away from home as if I were there. It also provides security when using open WiFi hotspots.
