installing dual fuel cooker

Hi all, Our current kitchen is way too small yet our dining room is bigger than we need thus we plan to swap the two rooms given it is time for a new update to kitchen cupboards etc. In doing so the gas and electrical outlets are not what would be needed in what will be the new kitchen. would it need a total rewire job and new gas line as we have been quoted or is it acceptable to have gas that services the heating (under stairs just other side of wall to where we want the cooker)? we were told cost would be something around £400 plus VAT although if we paid in advance in cash he would discount the VAT. we correctly said we will get other quotes and left it at that but it seems excessive given the ring main can deal with normal plug outlets. yes a cooker isolation socket is required but as the wiring in now is only 3 years old we do not understand why he stated a rewire was needed. it is not like he has to remove any of the sockets etc from the current kitchen and the gas pipe there we said he could cap for us at a later date when new kitchen is in place so we can still cook for the family as the work goes on.

By the way the route from the consumer unit to the kitchen has been wired via the space between ground floor and first floor and is easy to divert into new kitchen as ceiling is being totally replaced as are the walls so to speak (plaster removed and we are having plasterboard fitted with extra insulation)thus no chasing or plastering needed by the person installing the cooker. and price was only to install the cooker nothing else.

any advice would be wonderful.

Do you know what cooker you are going to fit and how much electrical power it needs?
